6 instagrammable excursions in Algarve.

Algarve is the southernmost province of Portugal. We previously talked about the places that captures every holidaymaker’s heart in our blog about the Best to do's in Portugal. If you are renting a holiday home in Algarve, it would be interesting to know which are the unmissable excursions during your stay.

With its varied landscape of rock formations and kilometres of beaches, this province has a lot to offer. But the warm temperatures in winter also make Algarve extra popular to counter the winter blues. With these 6 excursions, you will make the most of your holiday in Algarve and you will come home with plenty of instagrammable photos.

Faro

Are you staying in a holiday home in Algarvewith its private pool? Then Faro is the ideal base! This picturesque city with its cobbled streets, beautiful architecture and scenic arts is often called the gateway to the Algarve. The historic old town of Faro, Cidade Velha, is one of its most prominent sights. The city is enclosed by medieval walls and there are several notable attractions such as the marina with an I Love Faro statue or Igreja do Carmo and the 'bone chapel'. Most impressive is Faro's cathedral, Sé. After climbing the bell tower, everyone will bring out their camera to capture the panoramic view of Faro and its surroundings.

Praia da Marinha

Considered by many as the most beautiful beach in the world, this beach is definitely worth a visit during your holidays in Portugal. Several steep rocks and cliffs of different colours can be seen on the beach. But you will also find the clearest water in Portugal according to the locals. Praia da Marinha consists of several beaches to which you can walk if the water is not too deep. Otherwise, you can reach the different beaches by swimming or by kayak. Even if you rent a holiday home with swimming pool, a splash in the sea cannot be missed during your holiday.

Dolphin spotting

Between April and November you have a chance of seeing dolphins on the Algarve coast. Several places offer excursions to see wild dolphins in Algarve. Due to the variety of wildlife in the ocean, you may encounter different species of dolphins on your boat trip, as well as sea turtles or even a shark. There is of course no guarantee of seeing dolphins, but a few hours in a fast boat on the open sea is often a spectacular experience of its own. A super fun activity you might want to leave your holiday home in the Algarve for!

Ponta da Piedade

Do not forget to visit the most photographed part of Portugal during your stay in the Algarve. Ponta da Piedade is an impressive collection of steep rock formations, caves and peaks. You can discover this corner of Portugal yourself by walking along narrow rocky paths where you clamber up with your hands and feet to reach the most beautiful spots on top of a rock. You can also admire this natural phenomenon from the water on a boat or kayak trip.

Algar Seco

Near the touristic resort of Carvoeiro you will find Algar Seco. Your eyes will be amazed by the beautiful and surreal moonlike landscape made up of various eroded rock masses. Water has created several holes in the rocks, but the highlight is the Boneca. This is a two-ramped vista in the rocks over the Atlantic Ocean. This magnificent view can be reached via an adventurous route that goes over steps and rocks. After this experience, you can enjoy another swim at your holiday home
with swimming pool
.

Seven hanging valleys trail

The Seven hanging valleys trail is a 6-kilometre route that is definitely worthwhile due to the spectacular views of the rugged coastline, limestone cliffs, picturesque beaches and caves. The trail passes Praia da Marinha and Praia de Benagil, among others. If 6 kilometres is too much adventure for you, you can always choose to do only part of the route and then return to your holiday home with private pool!
