Going on holiday with my dog

At CAP, we love our furry besties.

We have Balou, who is easily excitable, especially when his best friend Bowie shows up. Then it’s a cheerful barking and chasing parade, and thankfully we have a big garden to let them do their thing – while we do ours.

Here’s where we get stuck...

We understand the homeowners who don’t want pets of any description on their premises, and we certainly get that holiday goers don’t want to leave their furry family member behind. Our solution for carefree holidays for everyone, is to add a dog-friendly logo in the description of the holiday homes we offer, and everyone seems happy with it – especially the dogs.

However, here are a few tips and reminders about holiday with dogs.

When browsing our website for your next holiday, be sure to check whether or not it is a pet friendly holiday home in France, Italy, Spain or Portugal.

This saves everyone aggravation, from your enthusiasm at having found the right house, to us needing to ask whether you have a pet and then having to dissuade you from a particular house. Our worst-case scenario which we absolutely want to avoid is where tenants show up with an unannounced dog.

So, first step, choose a pet friendly holiday home and we have plenty of those.

Next, you’ll want to pack your doggy’s things: the pet bed, dishes and bowls, leash, collar and tags, treats and food for a couple of days, favourite toys, blanket, and any medication it may need.

We also recommend checking out the closest vet’s clinic just in case.

So, once you’ve chosen your perfect pet friendly holiday villa, you’re settled in the house and the holidays can start, you may want to head out to the beach. And yes, there are many pet friendly beaches, especially off-season when there are less people and more space to simply let the dog run free! Literally.

France, Italy and Spain are countries with high ratios of dog ownership, so it is becoming more and more frequent to take our cuties to the beach.

Again, here a few tips when taking your dog to the beach. Just like the house, make sure you’ve found a dog friendly beach. This is a very important point, which can avoid many grievances for everyone involved. Including Doggo.

It is well-known that dogs love to swim and have a natural knack for it. Please make sure it can actually swim before leaving it alone even for a few moments.

Provide your dog with sun protection, fresh water and shade.

Another important thing is to watch out for dangers in the sand, from crabs to broken glass. Rinse their fur at the end of your fun day, and don’t forget to pick up any poop.

We have a wide selection of pet friendly holiday houses. And if you need more information, get in touch, we are always glad to help!
