A day out in Porto city!

Is your holiday home in Portoalready booked? Then a day trip to the city certainly cannot be missed during your holiday in Portugal. The city of Porto is about an hour's drive from our holiday homes. The city has already been featured in our blog about sights in the Porto region. But with its 7 freguesias, we are far from finished telling you about the city's sights.

Naar de zee

Renting a holiday home in Portugal but still want to go to the sea? Then you should definitely visit Foz do Douro. During your walk along the coast, take a look at Farolim de Felguieras, this lighthouse is located on a pier which provides spectacular
views when the wild waves crash against it.

A touch of culture

Are you staying with a Harry Potter fan in your holiday house with swimming pool? Then be sure to visit Livraria Lello, Portugal's oldest bookshop. With its bronze reliefs, dark wooden bookcase with rows of ladders and bright red staircases, this library is said to have inspired the conception of Harry Potter.

On the corner of Porto's main shopping street, you'll find Majestic Café, an iconic café in Porto. The exterior and interior of this café have a fascinating architectural style that attracts a lot of tourists. But besides that, it is also the place where you can taste countless flavours of coffee. Also an ideal workplace while working remotely.

Sé also has a lot of views to offer. For the most iconic view, you should head to the Dom Luis I Bridge. This is a striking arch bridge named after King Louis I of Portugal. Sé is also home to Porto's highest point. After a climb, you'll arrive at Miradouro da Vitoria where you'll get a photogenic view of the city's buildings, bridges and river.

Relax in the city

Need to unwind from the busy city? Then visit the gardens of the Glass House (Jardins do Palácio de Cristal). These gardens
of the former palace are beautifully laid out with plants and flowers. But the view from the garden makes this place even more beautiful. In fact, in some places in the garden you have a view of the Douro River and the Ponte da Arrábida bridge.

Newest hotspot

One of the most popular hotspots to enjoy a bite to eat or visit some museums is World of Wine. This cultural area features 7 museums, 9 restaurants, shops and a view of Porto and it is located in Vila Nova da Gaia. Among other things, you can visit the museum of the wine experience but also the chocolate story or the museum about fashion and fabrics in Porto. These interactive museums provide a unique experience. So with its various restaurants, it is also definitely possible to leave your holiday house with a view for a whole day.

During your walks in the city, you will come across a lot of graffiti. If you are a fan, it is definitely worth booking a street art tour. You will learn more about the city and its artists.

Enough reason to leave your holiday house with a view and explore one or more of the different freguesias. Would
you rather rent a holiday home in one of the other regions of Portugal? Discover our offer of holiday homes in Algarve, the Silver Coast and Santarém.
