Bergamo Holidays: Sightseeing and fun things to do (Lombardy, Italy)

Last summer, I was lucky enough to rent a last-minute holiday home through CAP holiday renting. With the whole family and our four-legged friend, we were looking for a destination that was easy to reach. A car holiday to Italy in a holiday home with private pool was ideal!

After the personal advice of the CAP team, we ended up in La Pradasella. A holiday home for 12 people, in the Alps of Bergamo (Lombardy, Lake Como). More than enough room for the five of us! This holiday house with private swimming pool in Caprino Bergamasco (Bergamo, Lombardy) was discovered as a ruin in 1979. In the Alps, there is a different climate than in Tuscany. Exceptional heat is, thank God, not a problem here. And thanks to the mountain breeze, the many trees on the large property and the thick rock walls of 60 cm, there was always a cool spot to be found.

Upon arrival at La Pradasella, it quickly became clear that there was an extraordinary amount to do around this holiday home in Bergamo with a private pool. With all the sights of Bergamo and the many to-do's around Lake Como, we were not easily bored here.

Hiking in Lombardy

We are all hiking enthusiasts, and for a hiking holiday in Italy, we were definitely in the right place. We did some research and were overwhelmed by all the possibilities.  Walks of all levels, so the children and our four-legged friend could always come along without a problem.

We finally chose a beautiful walking route in Lombardy that started right behind the La Pradasella holiday home. The walk took us past all the typical villages. Valcava, Tore di Busi, Colle di Sogno, Burligo, Gronallegio. It certainly took us a day or two!

Most beautiful villages in Lombardy

Visiting cosy, typical villages is one of our favourite activities on holiday in Italy.  There are so many possibilities and so many nice villages in Bergamo (Lombardy, Italy), so it became clear that we had to make choices. Renting a villa in Bergamo (Lombardy, Italy), turned out to be the perfect base!

Caprino Bergamasco is only 3km from La Pradasella and is really worth a visit. An interesting medieval village that was part of the Venetian Republic until 1797. Shops, bars, restaurants, take-away pizza and on Thursday a very nice market on Piazza Garibaldi!

We also wanted to leave our holiday home with private swimming pool for Brivio. A small cosy town along the river Adda with also many nice walking routes.

Day trip to Lake Como

Known as one of the most beautiful places in Italy, we could not pass up a visit to Lake Como. Lake Como is just 20km from our holiday home with private pool in Bergamo. In fact, we could easily visit Lake Como every day. Taking the ferry to Bellagio or Verenna, doing water sports on the lake itself, having lunch in one of the many fish restaurants... the possibilities are endless.

We started our visit with the Greenway Walk. An exceptional route along the various villages on Lake Como, via the old mountain road L'Antica Via Regina. A very beautiful walk of 10 km, from Colonno to Cadennabbio.

Cultural Milan or authentic Bergamo

Fancy visiting a bigger city during your holidays in Lombardy? With both Bergamo and Milan around the corner, it was a difficult choice. Milan as a multi-cultural city with the Duomo, the Scala and many impressive shopping opportunities. Or the more authentic Bergamo, known as the best medieval hamlet in Lombardy? From Bergamo's old town, you have a fantastic view of the hills and the modern city.

Discover the famous sparkling wines of Franciacorta

As a wine lover, I could not miss a visit to Lake Iseo with its famous wine region, Franciacorta. At 25km from this holiday home in Bergamo (Lombardy, Lake Como), we find this beautiful wine region. Franciacorta is known for its exceptional sparkling wines, also known as the champagne of Italy.

Skiing in Lombardy

The great thing about a holiday in Bergamo (Lombardy, Italy) is that there are several ski resorts within a few kilometres. Valtelinna and Val Brembana at 35 and 55 kilometres. During our stay in the villa with private pool, the weather was 'unfortunately' a bit too good for skiing. But this place is definitely on my bucket list for a winter stay in Lombardy.

Renting a holiday home in Bergamo (Lombardy, Lake Como), was one of the most beautiful and versatile family holidays we have experienced. Italy remains one of our favourite destinations. Maybe we will return next summer?

Or maybe this time we will opt for a beach holiday in Tuscany, or visit the best sights of Trevignano Romano, or go hiking in the Monte Sibillini Mountains in Le Marche,... Renting a holiday home in Italy gives you plenty of possibilities!
