AGRITURISMO IN ITALY: A TASTE OF THE COUNTRYSIDE

Discover authentic Italy

Brrrrr. It’s winter and the days are getting colder. Staying in might give you the opportunity to browse through some photo albums or reminisce about warmer and sunnier days. But it also gives you the opportunity to start wondering about next summer! Here’s a tiny excerpt of a family’s diary from last summer’s agriturismo.

Agriturismo? What’s that?!

10 August 2016 - Agriturismo, or just countryside tourism, is a concept you have to experience in order to understand it. Today we arrived at a stunning estate in Tuscany, Italy. The lovely owner of Villa Luciano welcomed us with open arms. I was impressed, what a gorgeous location! From the terrace of our holiday home we have a panoramic view of vineyards, olive trees and the Southern hills. While the children were put to bed to catch up on some sleep in our renovated farmhouse, the grown-ups deserved some relaxing quality time. We took advantage of having the pool to ourselves and dived in! Swimming with the sunset in the background, followed with a wellness session in the private spa: AMAZING. Now we’re crawling under the sheets because tomorrow we’re going out to discover the Italian countryside.

Swimming + tasting + exploring = happy kids!

11 August 2016 - We had a traditional breakfast with artisanal and local cheese, jam and olive oil. Waking up in our lovely holiday home with private pool and having Pecorino, Parmigiano Reggiano and Provolone for breakfast makes me feel like I’m in heaven! We could definitely use a sturdy breakfast. We were invited with the kids to go do an idyllic vineyard visit. We rolled up our sleeves and got to work grape picking. Meanwhile, our guide  introduced us to the art of making cheese and wine. It was truly a unique experience. At lunch we were able to taste what we harvested: a glass of wine for the adults and fresh grape juice for the children. No one says no to a glass of Brunello, Barbaresco, Bardolino or Spumante from the Chianti region. In the afternoon, we returned to our holiday home. Agriturismo often means just relaxing and enjoying the environment. The children were playing in the pool while we were getting to know Luciano and his wife Anna. They shared some smart tips to explore the region and the cities nearby. Some advice you just can’t find in a tourist guide!

Italy, home of fine arts and culture

12 August 2016 - We were inspired by Luciano and Anna’s suggestions to head out today. We rented some bikes at the agriturismo to see the surroundings. The Italian nature is beautiful. And we didn’t hear any complaining from the kids, they love being in the outdoors where there’s room for running around! Tomorrow we want to take the car and visit one of Tuscany’s beautiful cities. Sienna? Maybe Florence! It will be a great day either way and the kids will get to enjoy some Italian gelato!

I bet you would love to have a family holiday like this, too! Why not take a look at an Italian holiday home for yourself? Experience agriturismo in Umbria and visit Perugia, Arezzo and Assisi. Or do you prefer Le Marche where you’re close to Macerate, Civitanova Marche, Ascoli and Piceno?

Decide now and put a big smile on your kids’ faces… and on that of yourself of course! Find what you’re looking for on Cap.be in our selection of hand picked luxury holiday homes.
