Cycling routes in France: where to go?

Planning a cycling holiday in France naturally begins with choosing which region to explore. France has an abundance of different landscapes, each with their own qualities. In another blog post, we discuss the Mont Ventoux and the best places to discover there.

These are our favourite destinations for a cycling holiday in France.

Provence

Vaucluse is the cycling region par excellence in Provence thanks to the Mont Ventoux, but there is much more to discover! Besides beautiful and varied natural landscapes and vineyards, you will also find the great cities of Avignon and Orange, where unique and ancient monuments can be admired. Rent a holiday home with pool in Provence to fill your holiday with the ideal mix of sports and culture.

Between Mont Ventoux and Luberon, the Pays des Sorgues - Monts de Vaucluse is situated. Thanks to the clear river Sorgue and its many tributaries, it is a green and refreshing region. The Sorgue rises in the cute town Fontaine de Vaucluse, where the clear water in summer is a refuge for cyclists, hikers, canoeists and fishermen.

In Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and Vaucluse, you will find the Luberon mountain massif. This region is known for more than great cycling routes. The beautiful views, fruit cultivation and villages will amaze you and make every cycling tour interesting. The well-known villages Bonnieux, Lacoste, Roussillon, Gordes and others adorn the landscape with their centuries-old architecture and castles, such as the Lacoste castle. There is almost too much choice in one region! Staying in a holiday home in Provence? Choose a cycling route per day or adapt it according to the visits you want to make that day.

Further south, we are in the Var. Especially the coast is known and loved and is called the French Riviera, which is synonymous with lovely beaches and a blue sea. Besides the glamorous coastal cities such as Saint-Tropez, the Var has more than 400,000 hectares of forest in its numerous nature reserves. That means a wealth of walking routes, cycling routes and mountain bike trails! When you book a holiday house with pool in the Var, you can be sure that all the best of holidays are within reach: sun, sea, beach and nature and adventure! Have a look at our offer and find a holiday home in the so far well-kept secret of Roquebrune sur Argens for an oasis of peace in the Var.

Ardèche

A little further north in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes is the Ardèche. Nature has a lot to offer in the Ardèche as well. The Gorges de l'Ardèche, a canyon carved in limestone with the famous Pont d'Arc near Vallon-Pont-d'Arc, is an example of true natural beauty. Here, you will also find the regional nature park of the Monts d'Ardèche. There are also various caves worth visiting, such as the Aven d'Orgnac, Grottes de Saint-Marcel, and the cave Chauvet. Plenty to visit from a holiday house in the Ardèche!

Normandy

You don't have to travel to the south of France to discover beautiful places and interesting cycling routes. Normandy is famous for its beautiful sea views, good food and rolling hills and plains. In addition, the region is known for its memorial sites from the Second World War. The star of Normandy is the unique village and World Heritage monument Mont-Saint-Michel for which you have to walk through the sea. The city of Le Havre and the amazing chalk cliffs of Etretat are other examples of must-see places. You can also take long bike rides along the coast and put all the important sights on your route! Take a look at our offer in Normandy for a wonderful holiday not far from your doorstep.
